Koocanusa Scenic Byway
This 67 mile drive meanders along the Kootenai River and the eastern edge of the US portion of Lake Koocanusa. Along the way you will pass the Libby Dam and the Koocanusa bridge, both of which are the largest of their kind in all of Montana. This is a perfect day trip with plenty of pull-offs along the way to take in the scenery, picnic or toss a fishing line in the water.
Wildlife is abundant along the byway including eagles, ospreys, moose, bear, deer and bighorn sheep. The byway along the eastern side of the lake is open year round, in the summer we encourage visitors to return to Libby via the side loop which travels a paved forest development road offering an even better chance of spotting wildlife.
